Why DoorDash Doesn't Provide Paystubs

DoorDash classifies its delivery drivers as independent contractors, not employees. This is the core of the gig economy model. As a contractor, you're running your own business — DoorDash is a client, not an employer.

Paystubs are a payroll document. They come from an employer's payroll system, showing wages earned, taxes withheld, and deductions taken. Because DoorDash doesn't employ you, they don't run payroll for you, and therefore no paystub is ever generated.

This isn't a DoorDash-specific policy. Uber, Lyft, Instacart, Grubhub, and virtually every other gig platform operates the same way. The contractor classification is fundamental to their business model.

What DoorDash Actually Provides

DoorDash does give you access to some income documentation, just not in paystub format:

Earnings History in the App

The DoorDash Dasher app shows your earnings history — weekly totals, individual delivery payouts, tips, and bonuses. You can view this in the app but exporting it in a clean format is limited.

1099-NEC Form

If you earned $600 or more from DoorDash in a calendar year, they're required by law to send you a 1099-NEC form by January 31 of the following year. This shows your total annual earnings and is official tax documentation. DoorDash uses Stripe Express to deliver these forms — you'll receive an email with instructions to access yours.

The limitation: a 1099 is only issued once a year, covers only the prior year, and shows total annual income rather than a regular pay period breakdown.

Earnings Statements from Stripe

Because DoorDash processes payments through Stripe, you may be able to access basic payment records through your Stripe Express account. These aren't paystubs but they do provide transaction-level records.

Note: None of these documents are formatted like a traditional paystub. When a landlord or lender asks for a paystub, handing them a DoorDash app screenshot typically isn't going to cut it.

What to Use Instead of a DoorDash Paystub

When you need professional proof of income documentation as a DoorDash driver, here are your most practical options:

Professional Earnings Statement

A professional earnings statement is a properly formatted income document that shows your gross earnings, deductions, net pay, and pay period — the same information a traditional paystub contains, generated based on your actual DoorDash income. PayStubCheck lets you create one based on your real earnings in about two minutes.

This is the format landlords and property managers are most familiar with, which means it gets processed without confusion or follow-up questions.

Bank Statements

Three to six months of bank statements showing regular DoorDash direct deposits is a widely accepted alternative. Download them as PDFs directly from your bank's app or website.

Your 1099-NEC

For prior-year income verification, your 1099-NEC from DoorDash is official and credible. Pair it with current bank statements to show ongoing earnings.

Tax Return with Schedule C

Your federal tax return showing self-employment income on Schedule C is the most authoritative proof of annual income available to gig workers. Useful for larger applications like mortgages.

Applying for an Apartment as a DoorDash Driver

Most landlords require proof that your income is at least 2.5 to 3 times the monthly rent. For a DoorDash driver applying to rent an apartment, a strong application typically includes:

When in doubt, contact the landlord before applying and ask exactly what documentation they accept. Some are more flexible than others, and knowing upfront saves everyone time.
